Abstract

This study aims to contribute to scientific research in the field of addiction and its influence on Fatherhood. It aims to understand how the abuse of psychoactive substances (SPA) compromises the exercise of parenting, specifically, the role of the Father in the parent-child relationship. To this end, a qualitative methodology was used, using semi-structured in-depth interviews in a sample of 8 participants, brought together by intentional sampling (non-probabilistic). Based on the meanings that participants attach to fatherhood and his relationship with the consumption of SPA, the results showed that in general, parenting is seen as dysfunctional and inconsistent in its implementation. It also concludes that in households where there is drug abuse, the children remains an insecure-avoidant attachment with parents consumers.
