Abstract
School age proves to be a very important milestone in the creation of habits andbehaviours, wich tend to be maintained throughout life and prove to be long-term factors that influence the state of health or illness. It is at school that children spend most of their day-to-day, and for this reason, it should be the privileged place for the education and training of children about healthy eating habits, being a safe environment and facilitator of learning. In this community intervention project, the theme addressed will be the promotion of healthy eating habits in school-age children, will be directed according to the health planning methodology of Imperatori and Giraldes (1986) and Tavares (1990) and the theoretical framework of nursing from Nola Pender's Health Promotion Model (2015). Thus, the promotion of strategies that encourage the adaptation and adoption of the healthy habits proposed in this theme at the community level will be an added value for all those involved, with the intention that everyone will share and acquire new knowledge among themselves. Community nursing dedicated to school health evokes a fundamental role in promoting healthy lifestyle habits, taking into account that, according to the Nursing Care Quality
Standards, the role of the nurse as an agent of Health Education is “in the permanent search for excellence of professional practice, the nurse helps clients to reach the maximum health potential, by identifying the health situation of the population and the resources of the user, family and community” (Conselho de Enfermagem, 2001). In this sense, the school together with health and respective school health teams will be the main promoters of the strategies proposed by this project. The involvement of the rest of the educational community is also an influence on the habits of these children, especially their guardians, as they are the main influencers of their behavior, so they will also be included in the project. The theme of healthy eating habits is still quite undervalued, which
is why the development of this project revealed an increase in knowledge and sought to initiate a process of changing health-promoting behaviors in the target population addressed.
