Abstract

This paper constitutes a Theological -Moral reflection on sin and its main focus is to seek a conceptualization of sin in a secularized world. This study is developed within the framework of Moral Theology. Therefore, we begin our journey in Casuistic Moral, where we seek to understand the concept of sin.Focused on the practice of the Sacrament of penitence and to the resolution of cases of conscience, Casuistic Moral defined sin from the perspective of the Law, as a debt and offence to God. Not finding an adequated answer to the conceptualization of the theme in a secularized world we continue our journey towards Renewed Theology. The II Vatican Concilium, making use of the contribution of the moral that has preceeded it, gave clear guidance to the renovation of Moral Theology. The scientific character, the bible encouragement, the duty of revealing the greatness of the vocation of the faithful in Christ and their obrigation of showing the fruits of charity to life in this world. From those guidelines, we return to the Holy Scriptures in order to put the concept of sin in perspective. In the Sacred Scripture, sin does not appear as an isolated reality but with a religious, intra-mundane and communitary dimension. The post -conciliar Magisterium, analysing the guilt, calls our attention to the antrophological dimension, where sin is faced as a part of mankind though the last word belongs to God`s grace, that is bigger, wider than our sin.As a renovator of Moral Theology, Marciano Vidal, helps us to put into perspetive a conceptualization of sin in a secularized world through the release of misconceptions that associate sin to a taboo, or a stain or just a simple trangression of the Law. A correct notion of sin,is the one that tries to conciliate the ethical and the religious dimensions as two irreplaceable possibilities in man. Thus, to reach the man of our days, it is relevant that our approach of sin should be: integral, personalist, existential, and optimist.
