Abstract
On a daily basis, organizations try to overcome the challenge of managing multiplegenerations in the same labour context, and also the fact that each of these generations
have different perceptions of the various situations they face in this context.
The scope of this research is to identify the different perceptions in relation to three
dimensions - group autonomy, intergroup conflict and group performance - of the three
generations existing in Sheraton Lisboa Hotel & Spa. These generations are classified by
Baby Boomers - individuals born between 1946 and 1964; Generation X in which the
individuals were born between 1965 and 1977 and Generation Y, which groups those
who were born between 1977 and 1995. In this way, it is intended to answer the question
of investigation through the results of the empirical study carried out at the hotel.
Considering the age range of the Hotel employees, which integrates employees with
very different age groups, it is usual to verify the existence of new organizational
standards, such as being the newest employees to delegate tasks to the older employees.
In order to contextualize the study object of this work, a brief theoretical framework
was carried out where the concept of generation is approached, classifying each of the
generations and also framing a theoretical revision about the three dimensions studied
in the investigation. For the case study, a quantitative approach was used, using a
questionnaire survey, directed to the collaborators of Sheraton Lisboa Hotel & Spa.
Participant observation and written documentary techniques were also used. From the
results obtained, it was verified that within the perceptions of the generations about the
three dimensions studied, there are no statistically significant differences.
