Abstract

The present descriptive transversal study has the purpose of characterize a sample of individuals with obesity of the first health care relating it to the study of the emotional estate and social support perception of the same individuals. This study included a convenience sample of 52 individuals diagnosed with obesity for an nutrition appointment at the health centre of Amorosa. Participants completed a demographicquestionnaire named HADS and ESSS. Results suggest that individuals with an obesitydiagnose have high symptoms of depression and anxiety which relate weightily andnegatively with their poor conception of social support. Therefore the results of thepresent study emphasize the importance when treating obesity of considering at thesame time the anxiety and depression levels and always have in account the role that thesocial support has in measuring this variables. It was concluded that the informationfound underlines the necessity of evaluating the emotional state and the perception ofsocial support in the individual with obesity, in order to adjust the clinic procedure tothe specificities of each patient, increasing this way its effectiveness.
