This document is divided into six chapters and nine subchapters. The second chapter refers to the skill set acquired on the internship from the second semester, followed by the locations’context of the third semester. The fourth and fifth chapters were divided into subchapters, where the traced path and the development and acquisition of specialized skills, in every intership location, were described, taking in to account the predetermined objectives of the Internship Project and its implemented activities. Problem-situations were also identified, in which an attempt was made to intervene through suggestions for improvement and resolution strategies, based on the best scientific evidence. The methodological choice fell on descriptive, analytical-reflective methodology, supported by bibliographic research of scientific databases, the course's syllabus and learning opportunities during internships. The information was organized from the domains of common competences of the Specialist Nurse and the specific competences of the Specialist Nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area of nursing for persons in critical situation. In the field of Ethical and Legal Responsibility, the humanization of care, the privacy and dignity of the person and the safety of care were highlighted. In Continuous Quality Improvement, the improvement of strategies were highlighted for quality nursing care, having been identified as a problem-situation and opportunity for resolution, the intervention in the management of the risk of emergency room falls, through a training action in service. Within the scope of Care Management, the strategies used in the management of human resources and the importance of leadership in the professional practice environment were identified. The Development of Professional Learning led to the deepening of knowledge in the nurses’ role in relation to people in critical situations in different contexts and to the discovery of the importance of specialized intervention. In the coronary intensive care unit, the intervention in the management and treatment of Diabetes Mellitus, using new technologies, through a training action in service, was identified as a problem-situation and opportunity for improvement. In this internship context, an integrative literature review was also carried out on the glycemic variability associated with Acute Coronary Syndrome. On the path towards the acquisition and development of specific specialized skills, knowledge was deepened on: communication techniques, approach to disasters and the practices used for the prevention and control of infection. It is concluded that this path was a continuous learning process, which led to the development of specialized skills and competences in the person in a critical situation, towards excellence in the quality of care, with an impact on the safety culture.
