This research aims to examine the relationship between perfectionism and perseverative thinking in psychological adjustment of college students. Participated in the study 164 college students who completed a questionnaire about Socio-Demographic Data, the Multidimensional Scale of Perfectionism (Hewitt & Flett), the Perseverative Thinking Questionnaire and the Anxiety Depression and Stress Scale (EADS). For statistical analysis we used the SPSS 20.0. Data were analyzed using non-parametric tests because are not met by the normal requirements. Correlations were found between Socially Prescribed Perfectionism and Perseverative Thinking Questionnaire and Cognitive Interference and Nonproductivity, between the Depression and Socially Prescribed Perfectionism and Otheroriented Perfectionism among all dimensions of Perseverative Thinking Questionnaire and Anxiety Depression and Stress Scale. The PTQ Total proved to be a perditor of anxiety and depression. Significant differences were found on gender in relation to the SPP (women have higher levels), and on nationality regarding the SPP (higher levels in Guinean students), the OOP (higher levels in Portuguese students) and depressive symptoms (more levels high in Guinean students). Our results improve our understanding of the predictors of depressive and anxiety symptoms, a key aspect to develop appropriate prevention and intervention strategies.
