The present paper/study is a part of the Final Work of Master's degree, developed during the semester and has, as main objective, to study and suggest measures of performance in ports, in this case, to the port of Aveiro. This project is based on the features of case study, with the aim of trying to understand and analyze the performance measures that can be added to a port system. For this, were presented some concepts of performance measures and explained its importance, as well as three studies on measures recorded on international ports. Was also presented a study by an academic expert, followed by two studies by international organizations, one of them, worldwide, made by UNCTAD, and the other, at European level, conducted by ESPO, under the project PPRISM. Through the analysis, it was found that the port of Aveiro already makes use of performance measures, like the tonnage of cargo handled and the number of vessels. Being two measures widely used by the most international ports, as they are easy to apply, they serve later as measures of comparison between ports. After understanding the measures used by the port of Aveiro, were analyzed the several studies referred above, could stand out clearly, the countless types of measures that were presented, which may be distinguished into different classes, such as: market and structure trend indicators, socio economic indicators, environmental indicators, indicators of supply chain and operational performance, indicators of government. Subsequently to the study of indicators, were presented some measures for implementation in the port of Aveiro, after discussion with the administration, taking into account the strategy and the aim of the harbor, came to a final list of five indicators for subsequent implementation.
