The reception of victims by the CPC, as the first line of intervention, is fundamental in the promotion of the Rights of Victims for a quality assistance. However, victims are not always received with an adequate professional attitude and their rights are not always enforced, resulting in the phenomenon of secondary victimization. The present study sought to explore the perspectives of the professional guards in relation to their own functions, the collaboration with other entities and the strategies implemented for the prevention of secondary victimization. Since this is a qualitative study, 20 in-depth interviews were conducted with military personnel of the Nacional Republican Guard (GNR), who work daily with victims of domestic violence. The results showed that, although many efforts have already been made to implement strategies that promote an adequate assistance and referral of the victim through the various support services, there is still a long way to go. The professionals from the National Republican Guard presented positive aspects, such as a good articulation with professionals from other areas and a good functioning of the support services. However, they also presented proposals for improvement, such as investment in specialized training, more human resources, and better service conditions to fill the gaps that were identified in the assistance to victims of domestic violence.
