As part of Nursing Masters Course in area of Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing, comes the preparation of this report in order to describe and groud the specialized skills acquired through nursing care provided, to the person and her family, over the training to obtain the master's degree and the title of Nurse Specialist in Medical-Surgical Nursing. This work is based on a critical-reflexive methodology on the practice developed in two different contexts: General Emergency Service and National Institute of Medical Emergency. The personal and professional development in both contexts meant the growth and maturation of competences, not leaving aside the challenge that is the unpredictability of care to the person in critical situation. The conceptual matrix of the report is the Meleis Transition Theory, which focuses nursing care on the Person and her Family. They are in constant interaction with the environment, and need a facilitating element – nurse with interventions - to the health-disease transition, in order to experience it positively. The central theme of this report refers to nursing interventions in the prevention of VAP, a perceived theme as a need for maturation of personal skills, throughout the trainning of surveillance and clinical decision. In this sense, the Systematic Review arises as basis for the improvement and adoption of safe practices which consequently means improving the quality of care. In a second moment, I developed activities related to Airway approach, given the formative need felt in the internship contexts by the team members, thus leaving my contribution to improving the care provided through peer training. In short, this report encompasses the whole journey of personal and professional growth, describing and reflecting the lived experiences and acquired competences, as well as the difficulties experienced and the strategies used. Thus, I leave the perspective that specialist nurses are considered a changing agent and a reference of excellence caring.
