Abstract

The main goal of this dissertation is to study the Portuguese textile company Polopiqué. The case study, presented on page 7, takes place in 2017 on the company’s grounds, and it aims to describe the big decision involving the internationalization of the company by expanding to Morocco, and to briefly introduce the textile industry in Portugal, as well as around the world. The company’s CEO, Luís Guimarães, after a thorough study and weighing in the pros and cons, decided to augment the company’s productive capacity and start producing in Morocco. Facing a weak capacity to meet clients' requests and a decreasing work demand by Portuguese workers, Luís Guimarães had to study other possibilities to solve this general problem companies in this sector were undergoing. A detailed analysis was conducted to improve the decision taken by the group, as well as a survey to analyze a small, yet considerable, target group. This dissertation also has the support of an interview made directly by its author to the CEO of Polopiqué.
