Since the beginning of the century that management practices are seen as a determining factor in differences in productivity and economic performance between organizations in the same country and between countries. This unexplained difference was called management quality (Nick Bloom & Reenen, 2006). Considering the recent focus on management quality, several questionnaires have been created since the beginning of the century in order to measure management practices (Bloom, Genakos, Sadun & Reenen, 2012). This work aims to contribute to this matter, by presenting, based on the review of the relevant literature and based on the analysis of four management surveys (national and international) that have been used in this area, a proposal for a questionnaire of management practices with a special focus on management control mechanisms and tools. Therefore, through the practical application of the questionnaire built within the scope of this work, it turns feasible to measure more objectively the quality of management control practices in organizations in the broader context of management practices. Thus, we consider that the present work is instrumental in improving the ability to operationalize empirical research regarding management control practices.
