Abstract

This investigation wants to show the importance of Silence and the power of Listening as true pedagogues in human existence, in the arts and the liturgical life. In this sense, in a first stage, I will speak about the importance of Silence in human relationships, specifically in its connections with the Word and the Listening, that is, at the level of human nature. Then I will present some “maps of silence”, namely its following languages, not only in arts (from poetry,
through music and painting), but also in the contemplative life. Finally, I will address Silence in the liturgical practices: I will focus on the Holy Silence as a liturgical element and its place in the relationship with Word or Gesture, as well as its profound connection with Listening. I will address Silence as a liturgical space which needs to be inhabited, because it is a deep and rich source of an experience with God.
