Abstract

The Pre-Seminary of Lisbon was canonically erected in 1982 by Cardinal Ribeiro, in the historical context of the post-Vatican II Council and Portugal’s democratization. In a time when Minor Seminaries were in question and the diocese lacked vocational follow-up instruments for teenagers, the creation of the Pre-Seminary of Lisbon tried to be a concrete pastoral answer to this problem. Through meetings, every month, especially on school vacationsand through a personal and group formation offering the Pre-Seminary attempted to equip the boys who felt called to the priesthood with the necessary tools for discernment. Over the dissertation, we attempted to explain the historical ancestors of the Lisbon context and the Magisterium’s reflection on this matter. These are the foundational bases of Lisbon’s Pre-Seminary. In this document, we also study how the institution was internally organized.
