Introduction: The wounds have been, over the years, to remain as a major public health problem; this, despite constant efforts on prevention and research developed in this area. To try to remedy a major flaw in the District of Bragança and Portugal, which is the lack of epidemiological studies in this area, we developed this work. We can consider it as a pioneer also across borders, as they are also a few international studies that we can compare our results. As for the availability of therapeutic means in the treatment of wounds, it will be difficult, if not impossible, that the entire population has access to state of the art materials. However, it is our duty to ensure that the existing material and available, whether in equity for the entire population in need thereof. This study's main objectives are to estimate the prevalence of wounds, characterize the patient with wound and identify the most used types of materials, in the district of Bragança. Methodology: We opted for a prevalence study; as the processing of data is quantitative and as to the time of data collection is transverse. The sample was not accidental probabilistic, ie, cases were included, who were present at a specific time, and this elapsed between 04/14/13 to 18/04/13, 5 health centers of the district of Bragança and Bragança hospital. Results: Of the 253 hospital beds, 205 beds occupied, 50 users had wound which resulted in a prevalence of 24% 1 in 4 patients have wound. In the five health centers had a total of 60,611 subscribers, were made 6225 contacts throughout the weeks of harvest, in which 149 subjects were wounded, with a prevalence of 0.02% in health centers. This yields an overall prevalence 0,03%0: 3 user in a thousand has a wound. Conclusion: The results are equivalent to similar published studies. Through these results we understand the need to implement institutional policies for the prevention and treatment of wounds.
