Introduction: Leg ulcer it’s not an isolated disease but the consequence of one or several of underlying pathologies and represents an important problem of public health around the world. Methods: This study aims to identify the prevalence rate of the patients with leg ulcer, to identify the sociodemographic characteristics and the risk factors, identify the diagnostic methods used to define the etiology of leg ulcers, leg ulcers characterize and identify the general characteristics treatment. Also is a cross-sectional, observational and analytic study. The sample include 62 patients with leg ulcer registered on the health centers: Machico, Caniço, Câmara de Lobos, Ribeira Brava and Santana. The data were analised by the use of SPSS® 20. Results: The prevalence tax on patients with leg ulcer was 1,39/thousand habitants and the incidence tax was 17,38/100 thousand habitants to three months. The population with leg ulcer was, predominantly, males (58,1%); mean average age of 62,3 years; 75,8% had the 1.st cycle of basic education; 38,7% found themselves “employees”; 40,3% was included in the 1st grade of the obesity. Was verified as personal background an identical percentage value on the arterial hypertension and obesity (58,1%), following the peripheral venous insufficiency (56,5%). The clinic evaluation (100,0%) was the used diagnostic method. The main leg ulcer etiology was the venous ulcer (88,7%) on the median region of the leg (37,1%), that exist for more than one year (54,8%) and with a mean area 39,23cm2. About the treatment, was found that 88,7% of the population with venous ulcer the compressive therapy was applied, only in, 5,5% of the patients. Conclusions: According to the results is central to the development of action for the treatment of patients with leg ulcers or even the implementation of consultation with leg ulcers in Autonomous Region of Madeira (RAM) protocols
