Abstract

This document reports to training camp under the Master's degree in Nursing in area of Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing 2011/2013 the Portuguese Catholic University, held in Infection Control Committee, an ER General and an Intensive Care Unit. The training aimed to develop skills Nurse Specialist in Medical-Surgical Nursing. The report aims to describe, analyze and reflect critically on the activities. Thereby allowing the assessment of skills acquired and skills developed to obtain the title of nurse specialist. On the other hand refer to the left in the input stage sites. In Infection Control Committee has built a tool for auditing practices related to the prevention of urinary tract infection associated with indwelling catheters, with later pretest the instrument in two departments of the institution. Concurrent audits we conducted a survey of nurses about their knowledge of evidence-based recommendations for the prevention of urinary tract infection associated with indwelling catheters. Through training activities and dissemination of results, infection control measures and reflection on practice, I sensitize health professionals to the problem of prevention of infection. Patients also underwent a standard procedure on recommendations for the care of people with Creutzfeldt Jakob, towards the direction of the practice of health professionals. In the Intensive Care Unit was made to share knowledge about the guidelines for prevention of urinary tract infection associated with indwelling catheters and reflection on practice. It was also held disclosure of the recommendations of the Portuguese Society of Intensive Care, a recent study on the assessment of pain in the person in critical condition. In the ER we performed a retrospective study about clients undergoing catheterization in this service who developed urinary infections. Were also disclosed the results to health professionals, reflection on the practice of nursing, update guidelines and suggestions for improving the nonconformity detected in practice. Thus could sensitize nurses to improve evidence-based practice in the area of infection control, through training and supervision of care. The stages were an asset in order to allow a practice specialized care directed to the needs of the person and the family. On the other hand, contact with different realities allowed for personal and professional enrichment.
