The present report is carried out within the scope of the Medical-Surgical Nursing Specialization and Master's Degree in the Area of Nursing for the Person in Critical Situation and intends to reflect a long journey filled with new learning experiences. The main objectives of this work are to describe the master's and specialist nursing skills developed along this journey, to analyse and reflect about the experiences of clinical practice and to share the results of the research performed. This research included a systematic review of effectiveness evidence about the non pharmacological interventions used in the prevention of delirium in the critically ill person. Delirium is a neurocognitive disorder, defined as a disturbance in attention or consciousness accompanied by a change in baseline cognition that cannot be explained by a preexisting or developing neurocognitive disorder. This condition has a high prevalence in emergency services and critical care units, with a negative impact for the person and relatives. According to the literature, delirium is avoidable in 30-40% of all cases. For this reason, it is essential to understand how healthcare professionals can intervene in order to prevent it. The critical-reflective analysis that led to the acquisition of specialized nursing skills took place in three different placements: intensive care, pre-hospitalar environment in the immediate life support ambulance and emergency department. Afaf Meleis' Theory of Transitions and Jean Watson's Theory of Human Care were the theoretical basis for the nursing thinking that supported interventions along this path. This path allowed me to carry out some training to the emergency department team, create a scientific poster and send an article for publication in order to disseminate the results obtained. In addition, I also carried out an analysis between the use of two nursing workload assessment scales in one of the services where I had the opportunity to intern.
