Abstract

With the increase in the average life expectancy and the growing demographic aging, the institutionalization of the elderly represents a clear problem for public health. Formal caregivers, or direct action helpers, are the professionals responsible for caring in these institutions. The work of these professionals is quite exhausting, requiring many physical and psychological demands. It is important to assess psychosocial risks, since these are the professionals who care for the elderly in order to increase their job satisfaction and improve their health and work relationship, thus increasing the quality of care. The early identification and adequate treatment of psychosocial risks at work should be an urgent strategy of public health services in order to improve the health of workers. The community intervention project (RPAP) was carried out in a Public Health Unit and aimed to prevent and assess the psychosocial risks of the direct action helpers of a residential structure for the elderly. The health planning methodology of Tavares (1990) was used to carry out this project, following the various steps that characterize it. Betty Neumam's Systems Theory Model was the guideline and support for this project. The situation diagnosis led to the nursing diagnoses through a quantitative methodology with the application of the Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire - COPSOQ II, Medium Version. Data were statistically analyzed using the IBM SPSS Statistics 22 software. After results analysis, diagnoses were prioritized, objectives were defined, and adequate strategies were selected. The results of the evaluation of this project lead us to reflect on the importance of continuing and monitoring programs for the prevention and evaluation of psychosocial risks in institutions.
