Abstract

The safety and quality of health care are closely related, so deepening knowledge about prevention and promoting safety in child/youth care is a contribution to improving the standards of quality of care provided. The Nurse Specialist in Child and Pediatric Health Nursing assumes an essential role in the prevention and promotion of child safety, regardless of the context in which he/she exercises functions, being an element that promotes strategies to maximize the health status of children and families, as well as a health educator preventing risk behavior. The concern with safety in the care provided to people has become one of the priority issues in the health area and a growing concern for health organizations and professionals. Safety in care, as well as quality, is a multidisciplinary duty specific to each organization and requires the commitment of all professionals. With the aim of mapping the scientific evidence on this topic, a scoping review was prepared: Family perception of the safety of care provided to hospitalized children. During my journey I performed three internships in different clinical areas: Primary Health Care, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. In this report, a critical and reflective analysis of my journey is carried out, where the specific objectives for each internship are described, as well as the activities developed and the specific skills of a Specialist Nurse in Child and Pediatric Health Nursing that were developed and perfected. The theoretical reference that served to base all activities developed in clinical contexts was Nola Pender's Health Promotion Model, insofar as it promotes the maximization of the potential of child and youth growth and development in all contexts and situations.
