The management model proposed by Kaplan & Norton (2008), known as Execution Premium (EXP), offers an integrated planning and control cycle that aligns strategy with operations. This model, which evolved from the Balanced Scorecard (BSC), presents a six-phase cycle for strategic planning and execution, with suggestions for management tools to help organizations in this process. The study contextualizes the strategic importance of seaports in the global supply chain, and highlights the role of Port Authorities in formulating and implementing strategies in line with the sector's national guidelines. The main aim of this work, which was carried out through a case study, was to identify and understand the management tools used in the different stages of the strategic planning and implementation cycle at APDL, based on the EXP model. In addition, a critical analysis of these tools was drawn up, with suggestions for improvement. The methodology used included a literature review, interviews and data collection. The conclusions of this study identify opportunities for improvement in the strategic processes of the Administração dos Portos do Douro, Leixões e Viana do Castelo (APDL) and offer practical recommendations to strengthen the effective implementation of strategy in the organization.
