Abstract

The purpose of this study was to distinguish a group of patients of a health Unit in the north of Portugal taking into account demographic variables, variables associated with infertility, levels of anxiety, depression and conjugal relationship. The sample of this study comprises 49 couples, 98 people in total, with ages between 25 and 56 years. The instruments used in collecting data were the The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and The Revised Dyadic Adjustment Scale. It was possible to verify the existence of anxiety in 24.5% of the women and 10.2% of the men. And the existence of depression in 6.1% of the women and 2% of the man. The results of the last two instruments indicate that there is no major difference among the genders regarding the levels of anxiety, depression and couple adjustment.
