The development and evolution of nursing as a discipline and science involves nurses in the search for excellence in their clinical practice, becoming increasingly specific according to the area where it is exercised. Grounding new knowledge to the acquisition of evidence-based competencies leads to personal and professional transformation, which has repercussions on gains in the quality of care provided and adds value to nursing. This report reflects the change as a nurse and the progress for a Master in Nursing with specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area of Nursing to the Person in Critical Situation, is part of the curricular unit designated as final internship and report referring to the study plan of the 15th Master's course of the Institute of Health Sciences of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa of Porto, was developed in a Multipurpose Intensive Care unit and In Extra-Hospital Emergency from September 5 to December 17, 2022. The objectives of this report are to describe the contexts for professional growth; reflect on obtaining competencies for the Master's degree in Nursing; to write the critical, reflexive and descriptive analysis of the specialized care practice, based on scientific evidence and the acquisition of competencies of the Domains of Common Competencies of the Specialist Nurse and the Specific Competencies of the Specialist Nurse in Medical-Surgical in the area of Nursing to the Person in Critical Situation. The methodology used is descriptive, analytical-reflective and based on research in scientific databases. It is constituted into two main chapters, the first describes the foundation that sustains the development of learning, in the second approach to new skills, experiences and increased activities. The vulnerability of the person in critical situation and the environment in which they are inserted enhance the occurrence of incidents with possible damage. As such, a suggestion was made to improve the quality and safety of care entitled "Safety Incidents in Intensive Care". In promoting the improvement of quality management, Clinical Supervision ensures consistent and safe practices, guiding the student and the professional, and a "Clinical Supervision Guide for Students of the Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area of Nursing to the Critical ill" has been elaborated. For the growth of professional learning, another contribution was made through a literature review on the theme of non-invasive ventilation. It was concluded that dyspnoea is a frequent occurrence and Bi-level NIV is a non-invasive measure of choice, to be filed so that nurses can use it safely and quality in various respiratory causes.
