Abstract

Adolescence is a development distinct stage in which an enormous multiplicity of physical, cognitive and intellectual, psychosocial and emotional transformations happens. Autonomy and identity are developed at adolescence. According to the literature, adolescence is the phase where very profound changes in their bodies and in their lives occur; these changes promote adolescents as a vulnerable group (Ferriani, et al, 2014). Adolescents experience an instability phase that often coincides with the sexual activity onset. Higher probability of become infected whit a sexually transmitted infection is related to the date of initiation of sexual life. The earlier they start sex life more probability of infection. Risk behaviors and their unwanted consequences are often the result of irresponsibility and immaturity. Faced with this problem, the importance of health promotion becomes relevant, and nurses play a crucial role. The nurse specialist in community nursing has a very direct contact with the educational community, as such plays the role of liaison between the school and the health services. Trying to solve this problem, a community intervention project was implemented in a Community Care Unit belonging to the Regional Health Administration of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo. Its purpose was to provide general guidelines for nurses regarding the advising of adolescents, with the aim of contributing to the promotion of responsible sexuality and the prevention of sexuality transmitted infections in this stage. In this context, the project “Health Sexuality is Responsible Sexuality” was developed, supported by the Health Planning Methodology according to Imperatori and Giraldes (1993) and Tavares (1990) and the Health Promotion Model by Nola Pender (2014). Was developed a nurse’s guide to good practices, in order to guide sexuality education sessions suitable for adolescents.
