Promoção da segurança infantil

Abstract

The Internship Report presents the course of professional development undertaken during the Internship, consisting of two modules (I and III) in two different health care institutions: “Emergir”- Family Health Unit and Dona Estefânia Hospital. The reason of choosing – Promotion of Child Safety- as the action plan area was based on the daily reflections carried out under the professional exercise as well as the analysis of various health indicators. The accidents are a major cause of mortality, morbidity and temporary or permanent disability, resulting in personal, familiar, social and economic costs. Nowadays it is considered a serious public health problem. The main objective of the Internship was to promote awareness in the children/youth person and family, nurses and other health professionals about the importance of child safety and injuries prevention. In this context, the Nurse Specialist in Child and Youth Health Nursing plays an active role as a promoter and educator of health, changes in behavior and adoption of best practices by the child/youth person and family, improving the quality of life and influencing positively the health indicators of the country.
