Abstract

Health promotion assumes increasing importance nowadays. Lifestyles are characterized by a set of identifiable behavior patterns that can influence the health of the population. It is recognized the importance of promoting healthy lifestyles in childhood, since the adoption of these habits tends to be maintained throughout adult life. Parents or caregivers have a strong influence on their children's adoption of healthy lifestyles, and their involvement in this process is fundamental. The Child and Pediatric Health Specialist Nurse plays a leading role in health promotion, by training parents or caregivers in adopting healthy lifestyles. The purpose of this report is to critically and reflectively analyze the activities carried out in different internship contexts, with a view to the proposed objectives, as well as the acquired skills, aiming at specialized care. It intends to respond to a broad theme in the field of nursing, namely Health Promotion with a focus on Healthy Lifestyles. It was guided by Project Methodology, resorting to a grounded practice, based on the theoretical framework of Nola Pender's Health Promotion Model. As general and transversal objectives to the three internship contexts, I established the development of EESIP competences in caring for children, youths and families experiencing health and disease processes in the different stages of development and the development of EESIP competences within the scope of the Promotion of Health with a focus on the development of Healthy Lifestyles. Of the activities carried out in the different contexts of intervention, I highlight the elaboration of a poster aimed at children, youths and families on the theme “Sleep well to grow healthy”, the elaboration of a sectoral procedure on the theme “Nursing care for the child, youth and family with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus” and the elaboration of a sectoral procedure on the theme “Preparation for the discharge of the newborn and family”, with an annexed checklist for the nursing team on the subject. The results of the scoping review carried out highlight the importance of nurses intervention in promoting healthy lifestyles in school-age children, with special emphasis on nutrition and physical exercise. It is highlighted that a scientific poster was presented at the 5th International Seminar of the Master's Degree in Specialized Nursing: A Voice for Humanism, entitled “Nursing interventions that promote a healthy lifestyle aimed at school-age children in the context of education for health: a scoping review”, contributing to the development of master skills. After analyzing and reflecting on the path taken, I believe that all the EE skills, EESIP skills and Master's in Nursing skills were acquired and developed.
