Abstract

International travel is undertaken by a large and growing number of people for professional, social, recreational and humanitarian purposes (Organização Mundial da Saúde 1, 2012).It takes only 36 hours to fly around the world, which is considerably shorter than the incubation period for infectious diseases that can be contracted in different parts of the world (Trotiano, 2017). Thus, more than 700 million of the passengers who travel around the world every year have a high probability of contracting an infectious disease and unknowingly becoming a vehicle of infection for the rest of the population when they return home (Trotiano, 2017).The community intervention project was developed within the scope of the International Vaccination Nursing Consultation, belonging to the ACES of Lisboa Ocidental and Oeiras, which took place at the Saúdar Community Care Unit (UCC). It emerged from the need felt by experts in the area and was based on the health planning methodology and the theoretical framework of Nola Pender, Health Promotion Model. The diagnosis of the situation and the definition of priorities revealed that the priority problem was the lack of knowledge about health promotion and traveler safety, related to the limitation in consulting or accessing reliable and current information, having this problem emerged from the following perceived needs: the need for a written or digital support with reliable and current information and the need to disseminate the consultation. Thus, the project's intervention is aimed at the 11 Nurses of the UCC Saúdar. The project aimed at health promotion actions in order to empower Nurses to correctly provide care within the scope of health promotion and traveller's safety, using educational and dissemination strategies. The internship provided me enrichment and change, both at a personal and professional level, allowing for the acquisition and development of common skills of specialist nurses and specific skills of Community Health Nursing.
