Promoção do desenvolvimento infantil

Abstract

The child development is a complex process that begins during the conception and involves several aspects such as the physical growth, the neurological, behavioural, cognitive, social and affective development of the child. Its aim is to provide the children competences that allow them to answer to their needs and those of their environment. To conceptualise child development is not that simple and it varies according to the theoretical referential that one might adopt and the aspects that one choose to approach. This report presents nursing interventions channelized at the promotion of the child development during a training period, from those I underline the identification of the nursing strategies to improve the cares based on the diagnosis of the situation. To support my practice I took under consideration the Nola Pender Promoting Health Model, since it constitutes a useful instrument to understand the reach of the nursing practice in a variety of contexts and situations. The promotion of child development is without a doubt considered by the health professionals as a crucial element as far as the triad is concerned. However it is not always done in a systematic and conscientious way. I realized that although the efforts to promote the right child development for each age group, many interventions are centered in pathology. This is why my practice became a challenge, since it has as a main aim to promote child development in all its contexts. It is important for the Nurse Specialist in Pediatrics and Child Health to work in the promotion of child development to help the children along with their families to develop within the standard expected to their age. This trajectory contributed to the personal and professional development of the Nurse Specialist in Pediatrics and Child Health competences essential to the proficient cares given to the children/families.
