Abstract

With the ascension of thought centered in the homo economicus and in state intervention, the economic academy preoccupied itself with state and market study as the only institutional ways through which individual see their needs as met, not taking into consideration the role that the human communities plays in this context. The concept developed by sociology, human community is presented as an institutional form that centers itself in the utility that individuals take from social interactions. This final Master's degree paper will discuss some of the economical properties of the human communities: human communities as spaces of accumulation of social capital, human communities as spaces of resolution of problems of coordination and human communities as spaces with properties of economic circuit. Based on this third approach of the human communities, the study at hand applied the Local multiplier 3 instrument in Holy House of Mercy of S. Bento de Arnoia in the year 2012, with the purpose of ascertaining what was its impact in Celorico de Basto's local economy and concludes that for euro that this institution earns, it creates 2,033 additional euros in Celorico de Basto's local economy.
