Abstract

This dissertation focuses on the study examining the relationship between approaches to learning and personal conceptions intelligence. Beyond correlational analysis, it will carry out an analysis of the differences taking into account various socio-demographic variables such as age, gender, school year, academic performance and study days. To understand these relationships, we used a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Inventory Case Study (Rosário, Ferreira & Cunha, 2003) and the Scale of Intelligence-Personal Conceptions (Faria, 2001). The approaches to learning are described based on the theoretical model of SAL (Students Approaches to Learning) and conceptions personal intelligence will be discussed in the light of the theory of Dweck The study was conducted with 258 students from 7th to 9th grade, two groups of schools. The main results show us that there is a positive correlation between the static conception of intelligence and deep learning approach and enter the superficial approach and dynamic conception.
