Studies suggest that the quality of life and degree of functionality are lower in older adults with Alzheimer's living in institutions than in those who live in their own home. This study's main objective is to study whether the quality of life and degree of functionality in older adults with Alzheimer's varies with the type of residence (personal or institutional). The sample consists of 37 older adults with Alzheimer's in residential care, 36 older adults with Alzheimer's living in their own home and their respective caregivers. This is a study with a quantitative, correlational and crosssectional design. Participants completed a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Alzheimer's Disease Quality of Life Scale, the Barthel Index and the Lawton and Brody Scale. The quality of life and independence of older adults with Alzheimer's must be studied so that appropriate strategies can be developed to increase life expectancy and to age with greater independence.
