Abstract

This report focuses on the path taken in the scope of the curricular unit “Final Stage and Report”, of the Master's Course in Nursing with Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing, in the area of Nursing for Critical Ill Patient, from the Institute of Health Sciences - Porto of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, with the objective of publicizing the objectives and activities developed with a view to acquiring skills. The safety and quality of health care served as a guideline for carrying out the activities developed during the two internships contexts: Intensive Care Service and Emergency Service from November 2020 to February 2021. Throughout the report, it was used a descriptive and critical-reflexive methodology, supported by bibliographic research, using databases, periodical publications and research work. With the change in the allocation of the multipurpose intensive care unit, due to the context of the pandemic by COVID-19, and the adaptation of human resources, with the safety of care as a background, the search for scientific evidence on the Nursing Activites Score scale, the Behavioral Pain Scale scale, with contributions being made through inservice training. In this context, a poster was elaborated on the topic of Pneumonia Associated with Intubation, given that it is a serious infection acquired in the intensive care service in patients submitted to intubation and mechanical ventilation for more than 48 hours, but which is preventable with compliance of simple measures (bundle), constituting a great challenge to the practice of nursing. In the internship in the emergency department, it was possible to develop several nursing skills specialized in caring for people in urgent and emergency situations. I highlight the identification of opportunities for improvement in the scope of communication, which led to the development of an internal standard with the theme "Effective communication in nursing in the transition of care - Use of the ISBAR technique in the Emergency Department". Scientific evidence demonstrates that effective communication between health professionals makes it possible to reduce situations of redundancy, manage care time, increase patient safety and the satisfaction of the professionals themselves. The literature searches carried out, the activities and reflections developed, the care performed and the lived experiences contributed to my professional and personal growth, promoting the acquisition of specific skills of the specialist nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area of Nursing for the Person in Situation Criticism. The path taken in times of pandemic demanded a lot of dedication and commitment, strengthening the determination in my daily practice to maintain the promotion of constant quality and safety in evidencebased care within the scope of the skills of a master in nursing.
