Abstract

Dating violence is a serious and complex public health problem. Considering that dating violence is a strong predictor of domestic violence in future interpersonal relationships, it is crucial to act preventively with adolescents, since it is during adolescence that the first romantic relationships are developed and behaviors are acquired that will certainly have repercussions in adulthood. This community intervention project was carried out in a Community Care Unit belonging to the Regional Health Administration of Lisbon and Tagus Valley, entitled: “Those who love do not attack”: Specialized nursing intervention with adolescents in school context, the project aimed to contribute to the empowerment of adolescents in the 10th grade from two secondary schools in the municipality, by promoting knowledge for the adoption of behaviors aimed at healthy dating relationships. The project was based on the Health Planning Methodology according to Imperatori and Giraldes (1993) and supported by Nola Pender's Health Promotion Model (Pender, Murdaugh, and Parsons, 2015). The diagnosis of the situation was performed through consensus research with experts, using the Focus Group technique, and allowed identifying that dating violence is a problem in the municipality with the need for preventive action with adolescents in school settings. A final sample of 145 adolescents was selected for intervention. The identified nursing diagnoses were prioritized using the Analysis Grid technique (Tavares, 1990), and we chose to intervene in all diagnoses given their interrelationship. The educational strategy was used as the main community intervention strategy, at a preventive level, using health education. The results showed that the project contributed to increasing the adolescents' level of knowledge about dating violence, thus envisaging effective health gains.
