The present study aimed to adapt the LSMq (Campos, Palha, Dias, Veiga, & Duarte, 2012; Campos & Palha, 2014) for the Portuguese adult population and the psychometric characteristics study. To meet the study goal, we used a five adults sample in the experimental version of the questionnaire to linguistic adaptation. Afterwards 356 adults participated in the final version of the questionnaire, to understand the levels of mental health literacy, exploring the following variables: gender, proximity to mental health problems and type of course – health care versus other areas. The questionnaire results revealed good levels of internal consistency and construct validity. Participants showed good levels of literacy in mental health, existing differences statistically significant in gender and proximity to mental health problems.
