The main goal of this research paper is to analyze the differences in internalization problems, evaluated by different informants, according to academic achievement level, among students of the 2nd and 3nd cycle of basic education and high-school. For this study was used a stratified sampling representative of the portuguese population constituted by of 1510 students aged between 11 and 18 years old. From the set of ASEBA battery tests validated for the Portuguese population, the three instruments used were: CBCL 6-18, YSR 11-18 e TRF 6-18. In general, the results of this study suggest that students with low academic achievement show more internalization problems than students with medium and/or high academic achievement. However in 3nd cycle, from the perspective of the students, students with high academic achievement show higher levels of anxiety/depression, compared to students with low academic achievement. These results indicate that in addition to students with low academic achievement who are at risk and vulnerable to internalization problems, special attention must also be paid to students with high academic achievement.
