This report aims to highlight the learning process throughout the Curricular Unit "Final Internship and Report", which occurred in the second year of the 15th Master's Course in Nursing with Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing, in the area of Nursing to the person in critical situation, from the School of Nursing (Porto) at Universidade Católica Portuguesa. In the introduction section of this work, the internship is contextualized, referring to the objectives of the work and the methodology used to carry it out. Two major chapters were used to organize this report. The first one, “Characterization of the internship contexts”, contextualizes the internship locations, a Multipurpose Intensive Care Unit of a central Hospital in the North of the country and the context of extra-hospital Emergency, making a brief reference to the internship integrated in the Curricular Unit “The person in critical situation and family: Surveillance and clinical decision”, from the first year of the Course, carried out in an Emergency Department of a central Hospital in the northern region of the country. The other chapter, “Journey of acquisition and development of specialist and master's competences in the area of nursing for the person in critical situation”, presents the reflection on the most significant activities developed in this internship, aiming to respond to the previously outlined objectives, whose framework was based on the common and specific skills of the Specialist Nurse in Medical-Surgical Nursing, in the area of Nursing to the person in critical situation. The analysis was reflective and based on evidence, contributing to the consolidation of the Master’s in Nursing profile in the setting of the person in critical situation. In each clinical context, literature reviews were thoroughly done with the intention to pinpoint the competences developed in each context through the elaboration of written papers. The conclusion section carried out a synthesis of the items addressed in the development through critical analysis, as well as the main contributions of this path to clinical practice, with a view to improving care, and addresses the final considerations on the learning itself. The methodology used was descriptive, analytical-reflective, to describe the thinking and decision-making process developed as a specialist nurse and master in the process of acquiring and developing skills in the contexts of clinical practice. Continuous research and evidence-based practice accompanied the entire journey.
