The aim of this dissertation is to analyze flexible work regimes and the work-life balance. First, we will analyze the Directive on work-life balance for parents and caregivers, Directive (EU) 2019/1158 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 June 2019, namely the new kinds of parental/ carers’ leave introduced and the flexible working regimes, in order to demonstrate the innovations brought by the Directive with regard to work-life balance. Then, we will focus on flexible work regimes, contained in both the Directive and the portuguese legal system, which allow us to meet the specificities and requirements of today's ever-changing society. In short, the aim of this study is to demonstrate how the Directive and the Labour Code support the needs of workers and employers.
