This research set out to determine the influence of some psychological traits (alexithymia and emotional intelligence) in the degree of involvement with drugs, making use of a comparative study between consumers and non-consumers, in order to contribute to a better knowledge and understanding of the factors which can be the basis of said consumption as well as its severity. With a sample of 60 subjects, 30 consumers and non-consumers, procedeu.se the completion of a descriptive-correlational study, using as instruments of data collection the Dast (Drug Abuse Screening Test), the Emotional Intelligence Scale - EIS and scale of Toronto alexithymia (TAS-20), and a sociodemographic questionnaire. Next, we analyzed the relationship between the respective variables. In the cases sought to study the differences in emotional intelligence and alexithymia in consumers and non-consumers, as well as its relationship with the severity of consumption. The results of our research indicate that higher levels alexithymia present in consumer panel compared with the group of non-users. Regarding the levels of emotional intelligence results were inconclusive, showing higher mean emotional intelligence in the group of non-consumers, but not being significant results, similarly to its relationship with the severity of substances not allowed in a conclusive result. We conclude our investigation with an interpretation of these results.
