Relação entre a desconfiança nas instituições políticas e a crise da representação política

Abstract

The modern political thought classifies political representation as a fundamental concept of democracy and an expression of pluralism in society. Nevertheless, the concept of political representation has been experiencing a deviation from its essence, which along with other concepts as the lack of trust in political institution, has led do a crisis of political representation. Simultaneously, it is possible to confirm a generalized distrust in political institutions. The scenario of distrust and insatisfaction on how democracy runs in Portugal is evident in the last decades and has shown a gradual rise. The gradual and lasting trend of distrust in the national and European political institutions, as well as insatisfaction with democracy contribute to the crisis of political representation in Portugal.
