Relação entre medo e ansiedade da pandemia de COVID-19, resiliência e coping em portugueses dos 18 aos 65 anos

Abstract

Introduction: The COVID-19 is a global emergency with an impact on public health. Fear andanxiety are the psychological reactions most frequently experienced during a pandemic,impacting coping styles and resilience levels of the population. Objective: To explore therelationship between COVID-19 fear and anxiety, resilience and coping in Portuguese aged18 to 65. Method: An online study was conducted with 422 Portuguese adults aged between18 and 65 years, who completed a sociodemographic questionnaire and on the COVID-19, theCOVID-19 Fear Scale, the Coronavirus Anxiety Scale, the Resilience Scale for Adults, andthe Toulousian Coping Scale. Results: Significant positive correlations were found betweenfear and anxiety of COVID-19 and between these and coping strategies (general andnegative). Significant negative correlations were found between fear and anxiety of COVID19 and resilience. Adults in middle age have more fear and anxiety of COVID-19, as dowomen who also use more negative coping strategies. Conclusions: Using general andnegative coping strategies, being female and being an adult in middle age predisposes to morefear and anxiety, however being resilient buffers it.
