Diabetes mellitus type I (DMI) is a type of diabetes that appears most often in children and young people and carries a strict treatment. There has been a well established relationship between maladaptive psychological symptoms, including poor adherence, stress, anxiety and depression among adolescents with DMI. This relationship requires a systematic investigation. From this perspective, mindfulness has received an increasing interest in areas such as mental health and chronic disease. Thus, this study aims to study the relationship between mindfulness and psychosocial adjustment to DMI adolescents, as well as knowing the relative measure of mindfulness, and the various factors in relation to stress on diabetes. This is a quantitative, correlational and crosssectional drawing to a convenience sample of 40 adolescents with DMI Query Diabetes Pediatric Hospital Center of Alto Ave, EPE and Braga Hospital. The instruments used were: Therapeutic Adherence Questionnaire, Questionnaire of the Five Facets of Mindfulness, Stress Questionnaire Face to Diabetes Scale and Hospital Anxiety and Depression. Were also conducted biochemical analyses of glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c). The results of this study corroborate the existence of a significant relationship between mindfulness and psychosocial adjustment to diabetes, with higher levels of mindfulness associated with greater psychosocial adjustment in DMI. It was found that mindfulness is significantly correlated with the stress on diabetes. The results also revealed that higher levels of mindfulness are associated with less anxiety and depression symptoms. However, we found no statistically significant correlations between mindfulness and treatment adherence. It was further observed that the power of mindfulness, "description" is the variable that best shows negative relationship with the variable "stress due to the diabetes."
