Abstract

This report pretends to be a description, analysis and reflection of all the activities carried out throughout the clinical training of Masters Course of Nursing Specialising in Medical-Surgical Nursing, with the aimto acquire competences of Nurse Specialist. The clinical training took place in two modules, carried out in the Commission for the Control of Nosocomial Infection of the Hospital Santa Marta (optional module) and the Emergency Department of Santa Maria Hospital (modulo I). The module II was credited and corresponds to Intensive Care. During the clinical training, specialized care to the patient and family of medium/high risk was given and training in service was promoted, enhancing personal and professional growth of other nurses and the importance of prevention and control of nosocomial infection in different contexts was emphasized. The optional module focused on research in order to contribute to the improvement of nursing practice. The training was the mean of dissemination of results, recommendations and promotion of preventive measures in the control of infection related to health care. The credited module allowed the reflection on competences already acquired, mobilising knowledge and capabilities developed over the years as a nurse, recruited during this course as a source of scientific, technical and relational information, which are considered essential in the representation of the nurse specialist.
