Abstract

The following clínical activity report was developed in regard with the Master´s Degree course of Dental Medicine from the Catholic University of Portugal (UCP). The main objective is to present, describe and discuss the work done during the clinical practice of the 5th curricular year in each clinical area of the course. The work is accessed in a qualitative and quantitative way. The report also features three more complex cases conducted in this period. For the elaboration of the report, all appointments done by the work group conducted since September-15-2015 until May-5-2016 were evaluated. All data was gathered from the software Newsoft® and Dimaxis®. These programs allow a better management of clinical data. They allow the storage and organization of data such as age, sex, medical history, oral-hygiene habits, smoking habits, type and motive of the appointment; clinical exame; diagnosis; and treatments. All data was imputed into a Microsoft Office Excell 2007 document and analyzed. A total of 142 appointments were performed, 79 as dental physician and 63 as dental assistant. A total of 49 patitents were observed, 28 females and 21 males. The age of the patitents varied between 8 and 88 years old. Appointments were performed in all the clinical areas of the course. Removable Prothesis was the clinical area with more appointments (36). Oclusion and Odontopediatrics were the clinical areas with fewer appointments (4 each). During the Master’s integrated course in Dental Medicine it’s intended that the student acquires knowledge and skills that allow the professional exercice of oral-healthcare services. In this regard, all contact with the clinical environment experienced throughout the learning period is fundamental in the development of the students. Through this, the students have the possibility to ally the improvement of theoric knowledge with the development and growth of practical skill sets, essencial to Dental Medicine practice.
