Abstract

This Report of Professional Activities describes the functions carried out by its author, having a degree in Food Engineering with over five years of professional experience, during the performance of her duties in the Porto Municipal Council from 2001 to 2007, with the objective of obtaining a master's degree in Food Engineering through the Faculty of Biotechnology of the Portuguese Catholic University. The document outlines the work done by the author while in the service of the municipality, namely, in the areas of supervision and inspection of sanitary and hygiene conditions of registered commercial establishments in order to guarantee public health and consumer protection. Additionally, it critically analyzes the requirements necessary to perform these activities and the personal skills and social capabilities acquired as a Senior Technical Officer, in order to better address the challenges faced during the author's tenure. The author also explains the extent to which the academic content of the bachelor's degree in Food Engineering and the subsequent deepening of knowledge about relevant legislation were key factors in realizing her duties. In conclusion, it evaluates the importance of the professional competences acquired during the period in question, taking into consideration the specificities of the food processing sector, and their value and applicability in her future professional activities.
