Abstract

This report is inserted into the Master's Degree in Nursing in the field of specialization in Child Health and Pediatric Nursing. This aims to reflect on the course taken in the different modules of internship, the level of acquisition and development of professional skills as a future Nurse Specialist in Child Health and Youth Nursing. The transverse theme to this course is "Promoting Healthy Sleep Habits in Children." Adequate sleep is important both in healthy children, and in situations of acute or chronic disease, either by organic mechanisms that are inherent both in terms of physical recovery and the immune system that are fundamental to the full development of the child. The overall objective is to “Develop Skills as Nurse Specialist in Child Health and Youth within the scope of the Promotion of Healthy Sleep Habits in Children”. Module I - Child Health was held at the Health Center of Lumiar, the activities were under the Promotion of Sleep Habits in children from 0-5 years. The Nurse Specialist in Health of Children and Young has the duty to promote the highest possible health status and provide care to the child and families, providing health education. In the module III, neonatology and emergency service, it was considered essential to introduce the theme comfort, creating strategies that lead to comfort of the child during hospitalization, contributing to a improved quality of sleep. In the different internship locations, tools and activities intended to contribute to the improvement of care were developed fostering personal and professional development of the multidisciplinary team. In this context it was pointed-out the pertinence of addressing the Theory of Comfort from Katharine Kolcaba that considers comfort as an important positive and holistic result to measure the effectiveness of the strategies implemented at the level of nursing care. This being the theoretical reference adopted in this work. The Nurse Specialist in Child Health and Youth has a prominent role in the implementation of quality care, either by holding in-depth knowledge in the area of specialization, as per the specific skills acquired that allows to be aware to the scope of quality care.
