The Nursing of Child and Young Person Health and the health care services face in our days some challenges, of which stands the raise of children with special health needs. This group of children needs special and continued health care that are provided mostly by parents. The parents as informal provider of health care can experience physical and mental burden, social isolation and hopelessness. Hope positively influences the ability to handle crisis and the quality of life. Hope as a focus of attention to Nursing is related to confidence in the future, ability to envisioning possibilities and outline goals. There are factors that can promote the hope of the parents, such as the spirituality, social support, personnel characteristics and favorable evolution in the children health status. Acknowledging the complexity of the care required by children with special health needs, the needs of parents and significance of Hope in the nursing care sets the central purpose of this formation path: “Contribute to promote Hope in parents of Children with special health needs by providing nursing care, in the scope of the functions assigned to the Specialist Nurse of Nursing of Child and Young Person Health”. In order to support the intervention of Promoting Hope it was used as theoretical reference the Model of Mutual Aid in the Promoter of Hope (Charepe, 2011) that connects in his conceptual matrix Hope, Mutual Aid and Sharing. The contexts where this project was developed were: the neurological outpatient and the Family Health Unit in the first module, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in the second and in the third module Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Pediatrics’ Emergency. The main activities performed in this pathway were the analysis of the nursing care that parents and children with special health needs received in the several health care services by the point of view of Promoting Hope, the development of informative supports about the resources of the social network and promotion strategies of Hope, presentation of training initiatives in the health contexts subordinate to the theme in study and a intervention proposal to Mutual Aid meetings as a way to promote Hope in the parents. The methodology used in these report is based in analysis and critical reflection of objectives, activities achieved, experiences and chances of learning lived during this period of time, with the purpose of developing a set of skills inherent to the Specialist Nurse in Nursing of Child and Young Person Health.
