Abstract

The following report aims to describe and reflect the clinical practice inside the Master’s Course of Professional Nursing – Post-Graduate Course of Expertise in Medical-Surgical Nursing. This document aims to be the mirror of the critical thought about the performance throughout each module, and the goals, developed activities and strategies throughout the Emergency Service (ER), Intensive Care Unit (ICU) modules, and the Infection Control Committee option towards a fundamentation of skills for the professional practices as a Specialist Nurse. The ER module was credited due to the fact that I work on the Hops S. Jose's ER since 2001, and I have developed cientific, technical, relationship wise and ethical skills to the medium and high risk patient. The ICU occurred at Hospital de Santa Marta’s Cardiothoracic Surgery. The activities and strategies developed were guided to the critical patient’s care, towards technical and relationship skills, as well as a training to better care giving, implement and uniformize of good practices. The optional module occurred at Hospital de São José’s Infection Control Committee. I centered the activities in how to better the quality of care and good practices, highlighting the training in Operational Assistants, creating an audit instrument to short term Foley catheter introductions, co-elaborating of a fluxgram of Preventing and Control Nosocomial Tuberculoses Procedure, and Data Harvest Instrument for an E.R patient’s Infection Risk Assessment, perfecting and developing training and investigation skills The execution of goals, developed strategies and activities implementation revealed to be essential in mobilizing knowledge and important skills of great matter to care management, training and investigation associated to the professional practices of a Specialist Nurse.
