Abstract

This report refers to the draft stage developed under the Comissão Social de Freguesia da Junta de Freguesia de São Domingos de Benfica in order to contribute to the social structure of an observatory of aging and loneliness that affects the elderly population. The activity of the internship is structured in two major axes. In the foreground we proceeded to the first phase of building a database of the elderly population of the Junta de Freguesia, having been, for reasons o operational, limited the scope to the Junta de Freguesia de São Domingos de Benfica. In a second dimension we proceeded to the monitoring and observation of the situation of elderly care in different services and valences of the Centro Paroquial de São Domingos de Benfica. The study and intervention procedures used were essentially the collection of statistical information, cross-referencing activity data from the support services to the elderly population, as well as participant observation of activities and services to the elderly population. At this stage it wasn’t possible to grasp a vast knowledge on the problem of isolation and loneliness of the population, the main results relate to the establishment of the database of the elderly population in the Freguesia de São Domingos de Benfica, the preliminary characterization and deepening of needs and contexts of the elderly population of the parish
