This report represents the learning pathway performed in different contexts of the provision of nursing care and transmits objectively the problems/needs identified, the activities implemented to solve them and the skills developed during the probationary period. Over the course emphasis was placed to: Care of a Child with Congenital Malformation and his/her Family. Taking into account that, more and more children are born and survive with very complex malformations and that, in this transition period, increase difficulties that complexify the process of family adaptation and the assumption of parental role, it becomes urgent to help these children/families to achieve the maximum potential for health and develop skills to enable them to respond to their specific problems. The great challenge for the nurses is to support those who are in transition, understand their processes and develop appropriate interventions to their needs and their state of health (Schumacher & Meleis, 1994). The nurse specialist in child health and pediatrics, by thorough knowledge that holds and the specific skill which it holds, has a special responsibility in the promotion of parental abilities for dealing with the normative changes or adverse situations which may arise. In this way, one can contribute to a healthier experience of this maturational period and for the development of the child and the whole family system. Over the several modules was possible to deepen knowledge and develop skills that will enable me, as a future specialist nurse, care of the child/adolescent and family in situations of particular demands and complexity, with a view to maximizing the health, the prevention and treatment of the disease, the functional readaptation and the social reintegration in all contexts of life. The developed activities were, simultaneously, an important contribution to improving the quality of care, in so far as possible to nurses deepen knowledge about the care of a child with malformation and his/her family and develop some most effective methodologies to assist children/families in the process of transition.
