Abstract

This report reflects the activities of the practical component included in the Master Course in Medical-Surgical Nursing Institute of Health Sciences administered by the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Centro Regional das Beiras. The developed stage was divided into three modules with a workload of 180 hours each, thus inducing a first Period of 27/04/2009 to 27/06/2009 corresponding to Module III, held at the Burns Unit / Unit Special Care Hospital of Prelada. In 2nd Period between 06/10/2009 and 29/11/2009 correlative to Module II, being developed at the Surgical Patient Monitoring Unit of Hospital São Teotónio (Viseu). Finally the 3rd period between 12/02/2009 and 31/01/2010 on the module I was done in the emergency department of the HPP - Boavista. The main overall objective set for this stage was the development of scientific skills, techniques and relational approach to critical patients, emphasizing the burn patient. The experience provided by this stage led to my filing provision of technical, scientific and relational-level contact with the critical patients, respectively in their approach in the context of the Emergency Department and in maintaining their balance when admitted to a care unit intermediate / intensive and Burns Unit. This stage enabled the development of skills of dexterity, planning and decision making in complex situations, allowing the definition of priorities in the approach to critical patients, as well as awareness of teams to optimize their performance.
